potential hit song.

Every artiste in his career will so much

love to have a particular song or songs

that is/are said to be a hit. But one may

wish to know “ What is a hit song?”

A hit song, in a layman’s language,  is a

song that is popular and enjoyed by

many people. It can be a song that is

released as a single, or it can be a song

that is featured on an album. A hit song

can be sung by a solo artist, or it can be a

song that is sung by a group. This song is

always heard in every corner of its

catchment area. A hit song is, however,

geographical. That seeks to explain that a

hit song in one locality might not be a hit

in another. We will get to explain more of that in a different article.

Now, how do you make a hit song? It’s

easier than expected. Just read on.

Though there no scientifically proven

single route to writing a hit song, a

religious adherence to these few steps

will, however, up one’s pen game

musically.

Steps To Write and make A Hit Song.

1. Firstly, before you even begin writing

a song, you need to have a clear idea

of what you want it to sound like. Do

some research on what kind of music

is popular right now, and figure out

what sounds best for your song. With

this , you have to be current about the

kind of sound that are making waves.

You don’t need to sound like way back

in the 90s. Afrobeats, and Amapiano

are the current trend so you should

consider writing a song in that

direction. And if any take over anytime

in the future then you do likewise.

 2. Secondly, once you have a general

idea of what you want, start working

on the melody. This is the main part of

the song that will be heard by the

public, so it needs to be catchy and

easy to remember. Just make it as

simple as nursery rhymes. In every hit song it’s

always one or two parts of it that

interest listeners. So you will need to

work around the clock to get a catchy

melody for your song.

 3. Once the melody is finalized, you

can start working on the lyrics. Make

sure that they are catchy and well-

written, and that they fit the melody

perfectly. In as much as the melody

should be catchy remember to make it

reasonable to match up with the lyrics.

If you are writing about love, just

make sure the melody and the lyrics all

correlate. Do not let the melody go one

way and the lyrics another way.

4. Make it a point to add a language

most people can relate to in the hook,

preferably.  Music is a language on its

own . No matter how different your

language is from the song, you will still

enjoy. It’s nonetheless good to sing in

a language that most people can enjoy

even if they don’t feel the vibe.

5. In writing the song, make the CALL

 AND RESPOND METHOD of writing.

This is where the audience will always

be obliged to respond after the

singer’s line. For intance , in the case

of BUGA by Kizz Daniel, the listeners

are always tricked to response by

saying “GO LOW LOW LOW “ after

Kizz Daniel says   “LET ME SEE YOU”.

This means that Kizz Daniel CALLS

and the audience RESPOND. This

method works a lot for people.

6. Again , you need to put together a

polished version of the song that is as

good as possible. Make sure that the

sound quality is good, and that all the

elements work together perfectly. Do

not try to be a miser on what might

change your life. Spend on production.

A single good song is better than a

thousand useless songs.

7.  Before the official release of the

song, make sure that a snippet of the

song is out to keep the public

salivating for it. But make sure that it’s

the most catchy part of it. Do not keep

your fans waiting for too long.

8.  Music and dance are like two sides

of coins. There can not be dance

without music and the other way

round too sounds possible. So for this

reason, you will need to plan with

dancers for simple dance moves for

the song. Make sure the moves aren’t

sophisticated so much for a lane man

to vibe with. Make it simple and easier.

9. Now, before its release, plan with

social media influencers. Those on

Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok

and others to make it trend. Let them make video of it. Make a point to promote it

very well before the release and even

after that.

10. Make Women and children your

target audience. Though, everyone is a

potential consumer of good music, it

is, however, obvious that women and

children are loud when it comes to music. Once you do these, there you have a hit song.

In conclusion, you will have to know

that even though it the listeners to

determine what a hit is, the musician

or a songwriter can, on his part, plan

and write a good song and for that

matter a potential hit song.

Thanks for your time, I hope these few points will be of help to you or anyone you share it with.
